Noble Oceans is thought made visible

Hi. My name is Iliana Gutierrez and I'm interested in the tangible record of how ideas evolve from their intangible origins. As both an educator and artist, I'm curious about how we uncover the behind-the-scenes work of revision, problem-solving, and contemplation that so often goes into meaningful creations.  My time as an elementary school teacher has taught me that complex ideas can be made elegantly simple. My time as a graduate student in Harvard's Arts in Education department has taught me that simple ideas can be endlessly complex.

These stories of process are founded on primary sources: journals, sketchbooks, manuscripts, the letters of famous authors, artists, scientists, and other creatives. Noble Oceans looks at the words, images, places, and objects that reveal a bit of how we bring ideas to life. Ideas as Stories and Practice delve into how we might impart the process of thinking with others.

Enjoy the dive into the deep ocean of ideas.

A Note on Methodology

As an educative, not-for-profit website, Noble Oceans seeks to use images in compliance with Fair Use copyright regulations. In all possible instances, images and documents are cited or contain a link to their source. Quotes are cited by their title of origin. I refrain from including page numbers as a way of encouraging readers to visit the works directly in the event that they are interested in the material for their own research.
